The SS. Annunziata Hospital in Taranto is one of the main public healthcare facilities in the city and the Ionian province. It carries out functions of diagnosis, treatment, and care, with an emergency room, inpatient wards, outpatient services, instrumental diagnostics, surgical activities, and specialized services. It is a reference point for emergencies and numerous clinical pathways in the area, integrated into the healthcare network of the ASL of Taranto. The name refers to the religious and welfare tradition linked to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Annunciation, widespread in Italy since the Middle Ages through hospices, confraternities, and charitable institutions dedicated to caring for the sick and the needy. The current facility developed mainly in the twentieth century, accompanying the urban, industrial, and demographic growth of Taranto and becoming part of the city's collective memory. Although not a tourist destination in the strict sense, it represents a significant element of the city's contemporary social history, linked to the right to health, public welfare, and the daily life of the Taranto community.
