The Church of Carmine in Taranto, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, is an important Catholic place of worship located in the city center, along the axis of the Borgo. It is a place of prayer, liturgical celebrations, Marian devotion, and the headquarters of the Archconfraternity of Carmine. Its origins are linked to the presence of the Carmelites and the religious and urban growth of the city; over the centuries, the building has undergone renovations and adaptations, assuming its current appearance and a central role in Taranto's spiritual life. From a cultural point of view, it is particularly famous for its connection to the Rites of Holy Week: it is the starting point of the Procession of the Mysteries of Good Friday, one of the most cherished traditions of Puglia, featuring statues, hooded confreres, and funeral marches that attract faithful and visitors. For tourists, the church represents a significant stop to understand the religious identity of Taranto, easily combined with a walk through the Borgo and towards the Old City. It is advisable to check the opening hours and visit with particular respect during services and the Easter period.
