Piazza Ebalia is one of the most recognizable urban spaces in the Borgo area of Taranto, located near the seafront and the main routes of the city center. It is a functional square used for transit, connecting important roads, regulating urban mobility, providing pedestrian areas, flower beds, and parking spaces, and is often used as a point of reference and meeting place. Its location also makes it an ideal gateway between the modern city, the waterfront, and the path towards the Old Town. The name Ebalia recalls the ancient poetic denomination of Taranto, linked to the classical tradition and the Spartan origins of the Magna Graecia colony. The square belongs to the context of the Umbertino Borgo, developed between the end of the 19th century and the 20th century with the city's expansion beyond the historic island. Culturally, it represents modern Taranto facing the sea, with the symbolic value of the city stroll and urban memory. For visitors, it is a useful point from which to reach the seafront, admire views of the Mar Grande, and continue towards places of interest such as the National Archaeological Museum, the Swing Bridge, the Aragonese Castle, and the Old Town. It is advisable to visit it during an evening walk when the nearby seafront enhances the marine landscape and the atmosphere of the city center.
