Palazzo Pantaleo is one of the most elegant historic buildings in the Old City of Taranto, located in the area of Via Duomo. Originally built as a noble residence in the 18th century for the Pantaleo family, it testifies to the period when the island of Taranto was the center of political, religious, and commercial life in the city. The architecture retains the charm of southern aristocratic palaces: a monumental portal, an inner courtyard, a grand staircase, decorated rooms, and details that recall late Baroque and Rococo styles. Today, the palace serves a cultural and public function: it houses the Ethnographic Museum "Alfredo Majorano", dedicated to the popular traditions of Taranto and Puglia. The collections depict daily life, trades, religious festivals, music, popular theater, devotion, and local folklore, providing valuable insight into the cultural identity of the city. The spaces are also used for exhibitions, meetings, educational activities, and events. For visitors, Palazzo Pantaleo is a recommended stop on an itinerary through ancient Taranto, along with the Cathedral of San Cataldo, the Aragonese Castle, and the alleyways of the Old City. The visit allows for a combination of artistic interest and social memory, revealing a place that is less monumental but very representative of the urban history and traditions of Taranto.
